The Armed Citizen (or Farmer) is a melee defender which cannot attack or be recruited. It automatically appears in a castle within a civilian population when you build or upgrade either dwellings or townhouses. 20% of your civilian population will be composed of Armed Citizen. With the research tower, you can research militia. They will replace your armed citizens into Militia, a much stronger version of it (although still weak compared to other soldiers), but it will be revived after each battle.
